About the Artist

NEW LOSER is the multigenre alternative duo project of Brent Strathdee-Pehi and Brett Sutton, with Brett based in Northland NZ and Brent in the remote NT Australian community of Kaltukatjara (Docker River). The two began collaborating on songs in 2023 on one of Brents visits home and their self titled independently released album was released in October 2025, containing 12 tracks widely ranging in styles from Indie to Industrial to Cumbia to Punk to New Wave to Reggae and more. 'Wishing You Well" started as an acoustic folk song written by Brent and his wife Ajeng while living in East Timor in the early 2020's. The chords and rhythm inspired lyrics that push and pull between optimism and pessimism, best captured by the hook "I wish you well. Keep on moving, keep believing" while the pre chorus line states "We're falling through the cracks". The song is uptempo with positive energy while the melody also has a melancholic slant. Brett always really loved the song and pushed for a New Loser version to be made which came about in late 2025 while Brent & Ajeng were living and working in Alice Springs NT. The song took on an indie rock/ surf vibe and once Brett added his lead guitar stylings, "Wishing You Well" 2.0 was born and released in January.
